- According to NeighborhoodScout (see the Staten Island crime map above), the overall crime rate is approximately 14 incidents per 1,000 residents, giving residents a 1 in 72 chance of becoming a victim (either violent or property crime). However, felony assaults increased, showing a 77.8% weekly rise and a 10.4% year-to-date increase, making it the most notable area of concern among violent offenses.
Property crime showed significant improvement overall. Burglaries dropped dramatically, falling 100% for the week and over 80% year to date. Here, grand larceny and motor vehicle theft rose modestly in the most recent week and over the past month. But their year-to-date increases remained relatively limited compared to historical levels.
Lower-level offenses also trended downward. Petit larceny, retail theft, and misdemeanor assault all declined substantially across weekly, 28-day, and year-to-date comparisons.
